Youth Curling Raffle Winners Announced


The Coquitlam Optimist Club and Curl BC are pleased to announce the winners of the 2014-15 Youth Curling Raffle. 
 
The winner of the $5000 grand prize is Marion Griffin of Pitt Meadows, BC, who purchased her ticket from the Coquitlam Optimist Club. 
 
Winners of the eight $500 prizes are:

Brent Perry, Golden Ears Winter Club (Maple Ridge), BC

Thank you to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket to support youth curling development.  They money raised this year will support seven Optimist's "Getting Started" camps.

Optimist Essay Contest Winners Announced

Alena Blanes, a grade 11 student at Archbishop Carney Regional Secondary School, is the winner of the Coquitlam Optimist Club’s essay contest based on a theme of “Optimism Should be a Priority.”
Alena was awarded $100 for the honor.  In addition, her essay will be sent to the Pacific Northwest District level to be judged along with winners from other Optimist Clubs in British Columbia, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Alaska. College scholarships are available for top winners at the district level.
Ryan Yu, a grade 12 student at Pinetree Secondary School placed second and received an award of $50.  The third place winner was Shawna Lee, a grade 12 student at Archbishop Carney.  She received $25.
“The students did a wonderful job of articulating this year’s theme. Only a few points separated the top three winners,” said David Henry, Essay Contest Chair.
